MIT Endicott House Hires Nahil Communications Group to Write Commemorative History Book

Agency to research, write book to mark 50th year of MIT’s stewardship of historic conference center property

HINGHAM and EAST DENNIS, Mass., June 15, 2004 – Nahil Communications Group (NCG) is pleased to announce that it has been asked by MIT Endicott House to develop a commemorative book to honor the 50th anniversary of MIT’s stewardship of the historic home in Dedham, Mass.  Since 1955, when the Endicott family donated the property to MIT, the university has employed the stately French country style manor and it’s richly landscaped grounds as a unique conference center and meeting place.

Titled, A Home on Haven Street, NCG principals will research and write a book manuscript that will cover the property’s lifespan since it’s initial purchase and development by General Stephen Weld, a Union Army Civil War veteran and pioneering horticulturalist, through the home’s transformation during the Endicott family’s 35-year tenure, to its rebirth and current function as a unique MIT-directed full-service conference center.  Book design, art direction and layout will be managed by Coy’s Brook Studio of Brewster, Mass.

“This is perhaps the most interesting and rich project we’ve been involved in over the course of our collective 50-years in the communications business,” said NCG co-principal, Joseph C. Nahil.  “Chris and I look forward to interviewing family members, staff and University officials, as well as combing through historical records and artifacts, to produce a volume that explores the role the house has played in local culture, as well landscape architecture history.”

In addition to the book, MIT Endicott House also plans a variety of 50th anniversary celebration events that are planned to run though 2005 and that will be announced in coming months.
