HINGHAM and EAST DENNIS, Mass., August 25, 2003 – Nahil Communications Group (NCG) is pleased to announce that it has been asked by the Diabetes Education Center of Cape Cod (DECCC) to develop and deliver a public launch strategy for the nonprofit healthcare information organization.  The DECCC is the first on-Cape comprehensive, centralized resource for diabetes information, educational support, prevention guidance and research fund-raising activities.

NCG will provide the organization with a comprehensive launch and sustaining marketing communications plan and, in conjunction with other members of the communications team, will deliver the implementation necessary to put the plan into action.  NCG will provide public relations; writing, editing and advice on print and interactive collateral, and ongoing counsel and execution in areas such as fundraising, community relations, relationship and partner marketing, and executive communications.

“The opportunity to make a legitimate impact on our community by putting the public face on the Diabetes Education Council of Cape Cod is one of the richest rewards of our respective careers thus far,” said NCG co-principal, Joseph C. Nahil.  “Chris and I will focus every ounce of our experience and creativity to do our part to make this organization a vital part of the lives of people with diabetes on Cape Cod, and a significant presence in the Cape Cod community.”

The DECCC is located in the mid-Cape area to provide easy accessibility for all Cape residents.  The Center will feature a library of books, pamphlets, videos, CDs and DVDs, as well as computer workstations with Internet access that will deliver information concerning diabetes, its prevention and treatment options.  The Center also plans to offer classes on topics ranging from nutrition to stress management, a roster of guest lecturers and seminars by healthcare professionals, as well as informal spaces for discussion, peer interaction and support sessions.

In the United States, someone dies from complications of diabetes every three minutes. In addition, the disease is the leading cause of kidney failure, adult blindness, and non-traumatic amputations. According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, 17 million people suffer with diabetes in the United States alone. More disturbing is the fact that almost six million people with the disease are undiagnosed, according to the Institute.

The Diabetes Education Center of Cape Cod is located at 109 Main Street (Route 128, Windmill Plaza) in West Dennis. The Center is expected to open in November and be fully functional by January 2004.
